When painting Scapes...they are an escape...a free association of paint, passion and innocence...gawking at the wonders of nature then writing a dissertation in paint on the wonders of sub atomic particles that make up an atom, that bond and form a cell that bond and form a form, that take on a color or become air we breathe, scents we smell, tactile facets we experience and visions too beautiful to be random...but these paintings do not question anything...only scratch at the surface of bliss...
For the viewer...These paintings are true landscape based and that is to allow the viewer to engage from a notion of familiarity. However, their true meaning exists within a larger form of abstraction. To begin, the horizon lines are particularly skewed to force a perception of flatness. From there the painting should be viewed as distinct color fields that explore the relationship of color and form as it affects emotion; first with the larger, obvious color fields and then to explore the minute but distinct relationships involved in each stroke or placement of color as they create intensity or calm.
